Watch Our Energy Efficient Mortgage Webinar
Last week, I did my first webinar. Along with Jason Payne of Structured Energies and EEM Training, I discussed the Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM), theory and application. I handled the theory side, and Jason, who’s actually done a bunch of EEM’s, discussed a case study of one of the EEM projects he’s been involved with – in this case, his personal home.
Watch the webinar to learn about the FHA Energy Efficient Mortgage used for energy improvements on an existing home. Sometimes this is called an Energy Improvement Mortgage, but the HUD mortgagee letters don’t ever use that term. It seems to be a RESNET term.
Here are some of the main topics we cover:
- How to determine which improvements are cost-effective using present value calculations
- What kind of improvements qualify for an EEM
- The step-by-step process
Also, Jason goes through the case study of getting an EEM when he refinanced his home. You can watch the webinar to see how he saved $250 a month and got nearly $5000 back in tax credits and rebates.
Let me know what you think of the webinar. Also, see below for more info about training in EEM’s.

Terrific presentation on EEMs
Terrific presentation on EEMs!
For the past 2 years I’ve been in career transition to energy efficiency/home performance consultant (BPI) from a residential RE appraiser past 10 years. Now I find myself increasingly in position to help w/ outreach to RE pros re: building science & how energy features contribute value. I’m developing a course now which I’ll start by teaching thru PG&E; here in CA. I just met w/ a local group yesterday of more progressive thinking RE agents who are considering what they may do to stimulate economy & help improve downward trend in values, foreclosures etc. EEMs are as you said, certainly underused. There are other creative financing programs being developed (a particular local Mort broker has a good one) with intent to help w/ E upgrades to distressed properties. The momentum is building.
Thanks!
Thanks, Debra. I also feel
Thanks, Debra. I also feel the momentum building for this. It’s a matter of educating people, so I’m doing what I can in that arena.

Allison, what are the reasons
Allison, what are the reasons that you changed hosting providers? You didn’t include the benefits that helped you skyrocket your exposure with the new provider. Care to share?
