Builders at Nashville ENERGY STAR Workshop Receptive to Version 3
A room full of builders, contractors, developers, and designers recently participated in a workshop on ENERGY STAR Version 3 for homes. Sponsored by E3 Innovate of Nashville and presented by Allison Bailes of Energy Vanguard, the class covered the basics of the program, with an emphasis on how the newly revised program differs from Version 2.
A room full of builders, contractors, developers, and designers recently participated in a workshop on ENERGY STAR Version 3 for homes. Sponsored by E3 Innovate of Nashville and presented by Allison Bailes of Energy Vanguard, the class covered the basics of the program, with an emphasis on how the newly revised program differs from Version 2.
The changes covered include:
- HERS Index goes from 85 to a variable target
- Grade I insulation (or Grade II with continuous sheathing) required
- 4 checklists instead of 1
The participants each received a binder with the presentation, the new program guidelines, the four checklists with supporting documentation, and Energy Vanguard’s white paper on ENERGY STAR Version 3. In addition to the changes, the attendees also learned about the transition from Version 2 to Version 3 through Version 2.5.
Although the ENERGY STAR homes program is going through a major transition with Version 3 and becoming more difficult, most of those in the workshop were interested in moving forward with the program and figuring out how to make it work.
