Energy Vanguard to Offer Webinar on Mini-Split Heat Pumps
You’ve heard of mini-split heat pumps, haven’t you? That term often has the word ‘ductless’ in front of it because most mini-splits have no ducts. There’s just the ‘head,’ which contains the evaporator coil and blower and is usually mounted on a wall (as shown at left). It’s a ‘mini-split’ because it’s a small split system heat pump.

You may also have heard the terms ‘inverter driven’ and ‘variable refrigerant flow’ and wondered what they mean and how they help. It’s possible you even know about the ducted version of mini-split heat pumps, which get around the objection that the heads are unattractive.
Maybe you have other questions, too:
- How many heads can you have on one condensing unit?
- Are they really as energy efficient as they say?
- How well do they do in cold weather?
- Is it possible to use them to heat and cool a whole house?
If you’d like to know more of this hot technology, Energy Vanguard is holding a live webinar on the fundamentals of mini-splits. It’ll be on 28 August at 2:00 pm EDT. Registration is limited to the first 100 who sign up and pay the nominal fee of $12. It looks like this webinar will sell out, so sign up soon if you’d like to get in on this.

Good to know others are
Good to know others are educating folks on mini-split technology. It’s such a no-brainer in so many situations. One of the biggest questions that comes up for us in the Northwest Ductless Heat Pump Project (www.goingductless.com)and should probably come up more often is about sizing and design for optimal comfort and performance. I’m sure you plan to address this to some extent, given your history and pet peeves.
will it have Bpi credits
will it have Bpi credits attached?
Thomas A.:
Thomas A.: Because of the variable capacity and the smaller sizes, mini-splits are great for comfort & performance. And yes, we’ll certainly be covering that.
Glenn M.: We’ve submitted it to BPI and will let you know as soon as they approve it.
If we can’t make the seminar
If we can’t make the seminar would we get a recording if we sign up? Thanks.

Hi Allison, will you give us also some tips on using mini-splits in passive houses?
Thanks and regards,

Lydia: We
Lydia: We’ll try to cover as much as we can in the hour, and since I’m going to the PHIUS conference next month, this is one aspect that interests me. So, yes, we’ll probably get into at least a little.
